ISYS:web 8 Features
ISYS:web 8’s broad features and comprehensive administration tools are designed to help you
get the most out of your deployment and ensure ease of implementation, management and use.
Search
To quickly and easily identify the right information, ISYS offers multiple search methods
and options.
- Multiple Query Methods. ISYS understands different users require different kinds of search
methods. Multiple methods are available, ranging from Natural Language, Web Style and
the easy point-and-click Menu-Assisted mode through to the advanced Command-Based
mode using the ISYS Query Syntax. ISYS also offers Boolean and proximity operators, phrase
matching, fielded searches, and Sounds Like and Starts With options.
- ISYS Federator. ISYS:web 8’s federation capabilities enable you to include remote ISYS:web
indexes to provide users with a comprehensive collection that is searchable from any location.
- Microsoft SharePoint Support. ISYS:web searches more than 200 file formats, including systems such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS)*. Configuring indexing and security is a simple step-by-step process that enables you to quickly and easily unlock this information to your employees.
- Subscribed Searches. This function serves as ISYS’ built-in push technology that constantly
monitors your corporate knowledge base or nominated sites on the Internet and alerts you via
email everytime something new appears that matches your predefined search criteria.
- Intelligent Numbers and Dates. ISYS:web recognizes
numbers and dates in documents regardless of how they are expressed.
So you can enter 1/1/02 and receive results that contain "1st Jan
2002", "1 Jan 02", "01/01/2002" and so on.
- Date and Number Range Searching. ISYS:web can search
for dates and numbers within a specified range.
- Multi-lingual support. ISYS:web searches most Asian
and European languages, including: French, German, Spanish Portuguese,
Italian, Cyrillic Russian, Thai, Bahasa, Greek, Hebrew, Turkish, Traditional
and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese and Arabic.
Unicode support is offered for multi-language indexes.
- Synonym Rings enable you to customize associations
between terms, so that your search for a particular term will also find
documents containing the synonyms you specified. For example, an investigator
could search for a suspect named 'Harold Cartrock' and also find documents
that contain the suspect's known aliases, whether they be 'Harry', 'Rocko'
or 'Mr. Big'. ISYS:web also includes a built-in thesaurus.
- Fuzzy Logic is used to automatically adjust for
many OCR scanning or typographical errors that occur when you scan in
documents for searching.
Navigation
This is when you are provided with a list of results related
to your query. The ISYS:web interface makes it easy to quickly review the
results and pinpoint the information you want.
- On-The-Fly Categorization provides you with the means for drilling down into a particular
category, thus refining the results list to a specific topic. ISYS:web automatically draws up
this structure, but also provides you with the means for tuning the categories to meet your
business rules or needs.
- Quick View provides a 'snapshot' of each document in your result list. For each document in the list, a context extract of every occurrence of the search terms is displayed.
- Hit Highlighting displays search terms with
a highlighted background, so you can see exactly where they occur within
a document.
- Hit-To-Hit Navigation enables you to jump from one search term to the next, thus ensuring seamless navigation of a document without the tedious scrolling.
Discovery
Find information and associations you didn’t know existed, which in turn enables
greater intelligence gathering and text mining capabilities.
- ISYS Entities highlights the Who, What and Where of your search by automatically extracting
and displaying entities such as people, organizations, email addresses and more. Simply
click on one of these entities to refine your search and discover more.
Administration Features
To ensure easy, intuitive implementation and management of the
search function, ISYS:web offers browser-based administration with features that include:
- Best Bets. With Best Bets, organizations can ensure a specific document appears as the first
result when given a certain query. Simply assign the query and desired document, and ISYS
handles the rest.
- ISYS SearchTrends provides you with a variety of reports to help you better analyze search
activity and user behavior. Default reports include top searches, searches with no results,
subsequent searches, and trends such as ascending and descending searches.
- Search Designer and Suggested Synonyms. Search Designer enables administrators to
browse their sites and view live SearchTrends data as they navigate. ISYS also leverages
SearchTrends data to suggest synonyms, thus helping you ensure users find desired content
when common and frequent misspellings and word choices yield few or no results.
- Site Designer. Through the ISYS Site Designer, administrators can more easily configure the
layout and functions of their ISYS:web implementations. By providing point-and-click options,
ISYS Site Designer reduces the amount of HTML coding necessary, thus
ensuring a more seamless integration and a faster time to market.
- Multi-Platform Support. In addition to running on Microsoft Windows, ISYS:web also supports Linux. For a full list of system requirements, visit http://www.isys-search.com/products/requirements8.html.
- Developer's Toolkit. The prime advantage of ISYS:web is it offers administrators two different approaches. ISYS:web's out-of-the-box setup is appropriate for most deployments. However, for organizations requiring greater flexibility, ISYS:web also supplies the necessary tools for achieving maximum customization.
- Index More Than 200 File Formats. Whatever format
your documents are in, chances are that ISYS can index them. ISYS recognizes
and indexes more than 200 file formats, including Microsoft Office documents,
shared email messages, HTML, XML, Lotus Notes, SQL databases, FTP, MP3, IFilters,
ACT! Contact Management files and Microsoft SharePoint*. ISYS:web indexes shared email attachments
in Microsoft Outlook, Exchange and Outlook Express. It also indexes
and searches document summary profiles, including titles for PDF files,
Word and WordPerfect documents and HTML meta-tags.
- External Websites. ISYS:spider plugs into ISYS:web
to enable external websites to be incorporated into the searchable information
base of your site.
- Remote Administration. ISYS:web provides browser-based
administration that enables you to perform administration tasks no matter
where your server is located.
- Security. ISYS:web interfaces with Windows NT
security. ISYS:web restricts user result lists to only those documents
for which NT security gives clearance. Also included is the operating
system independent htaccess (Apache) control mechanism.
- Up to 64 Million Documents per Index. ISYS:web is
capable of indexing up to 64 million documents per index, and there
is no limit on how many indexes you may create and chain. By linking your indexes
together, you can search across billions of documents with a single query..
- Leave Your Data Exactly how it is. There is only
one thing you have to do with your files before they can be indexed
with ISYS -- nothing! ISYS:web indexes your files as they are. There is
no need to move them, summarize them, copy them or change their format
in any way. As long as the web server has access to a file, it can be
indexed.
- Automate Indexing With the ISYS Scheduler.
ISYS Scheduler takes much of the effort out of the day-to-day routine
of keeping your indexed information up to date. You can 'set and forget'
index updates, re-indexes or optimizations so that the latest information
in the knowledge base is automatically available.
- Sitemap Aware. Just as Google, Yahoo! and MSN leverage sitemaps to crawl the entire World Wide Web in a faster, more seamless fashion, ISYS takes advantage of sitemaps to more intelligently traverse the sites you nominate. This is particularly valuable when using ISYS to index dynamic content or when greater editorial control over the indexing process is required.
* Microsoft SharePoint support offered only in Windows version.
